Digital Download Pricing & Sales Goal Calculator
For creators selling templates, printables, UI kits, or other digital downloads: enter your price, platform/payment fees, refund rate, CAC, and costs, and this tells you your real per-order contribution, the price you'd need to break even, and how many orders (and qualified visitors) you need each month to hit a real income goal. Free, no email required, no catch.
Fee/refund benchmark defaults below observed 2026-09 from public sources (see Sources) — not guaranteed current, and not your platform's exact number. Edit every field to match your own real numbers before trusting the result.
Your numbers
CAC, variable cost, monthly fixed cost, and target income have no default on this page — they're specific to your business, so we never guess them. Leave any of these blank and the results that depend on it read UNKNOWN below, not $0.
Price sensitivity
Same fees, refund rate, CAC, costs, and conversion rate as above -- only the list price changes across this row, from 20% below to 20% above what you entered.
How this is calculated
Loaded contribution per order = (list price × (1−discount) × (1−refund rate)) − platform/payment fee (% of the discounted price, plus the fixed fee) − CAC per order − variable delivery/support cost per order. Platform and payment fees and CAC are charged whether or not an order is later refunded (see Sources on Gumroad's refund policy) — only the revenue itself is haircut by your refund rate. Required orders/month = (target monthly net income + monthly fixed cost) ÷ loaded contribution per order (classic cost-volume-profit break-even math, not platform-specific). Required visitors/month = required orders ÷ conversion rate. Break-even price is solved directly for the price at which loaded contribution per order equals exactly zero, independent of whatever price you actually entered above.
Sources
- Gumroad fees: 10% + $0.50 per transaction on direct sales (outside its Discover marketplace, which takes 30% instead), separate from card processing (~2.9% + $0.30) on some accounts — reported inconsistently across current third-party breakdowns as either bundled or additive; this page defaults to the commonly-cited 10% + $0.50 baseline. Gumroad also does not refund its own fee or the payment-processing fee when a sale is refunded — the seller eats the full refund out of pocket while the fees stay deducted, which is why this calculator charges fees on every order regardless of refund outcome.
- Etsy digital-download fees (for comparison, not this page's default): $0.20 listing fee + 6.5% transaction fee + ~3% + $0.25 US payment processing.
- Payhip: 5% platform fee on the Free plan + ~2.9% + $0.30 separate card-processor fee, >8% combined.
- Digital-product refund-rate benchmarks: commonly cited as roughly 1-5% for a healthy digital product, with real-world course/template refund rates ranging as high as 20-30% for poorly-matched offers. This page defaults to 3% as a moderate mid-range starting point — replace with your own real observed refund rate as soon as you have one.
- Existing similar tools checked before building this one (so this isn't a blind duplicate): generic break-even calculators (e.g. LivePlan's) and a few digital-product pricing calculators exist, but none found combine a loaded per-order contribution (fees + refunds + CAC + variable cost together), a directly-solved break-even price, and a traffic/conversion-based required-visitors number tied to a monthly net-income goal, in one page built for digital-download sellers specifically.
Scope and limitations
This is a simplified single-product, single-price model: no taxes/VAT, no multi-tier pricing, no seasonality, no cart-abandonment or upsell modeling, and CAC is treated as a flat cost per order rather than varying by channel. Refund-fee treatment (whether a platform keeps its fee on a refunded sale) varies by platform — this page assumes fees are kept, which is the more conservative (never overstates your margin) assumption, but check your own platform's actual policy. Not accounting, tax, or business advice. When break-even price or required orders/visitors cannot be computed from your numbers (for example, your combined fee rate and refund rate already consume 100% or more of every sale), this page shows UNKNOWN rather than a misleading number.
